Print size checker

Check if your photo is ready to print large.

Upload an image to read its dimensions in your browser, or enter width and height manually. We will show crisp, acceptable, and risky frame sizes before you order.

Rule of thumb

200+ effective DPI is crisp. 150 to 199 DPI can work from a few feet away. Under 150 DPI should be upscaled first.

Max at 200 DPI

--

At 200 DPI, this is crisp. At 150 DPI, it can still work from normal wall-viewing distance.

Common frame sizes

Effective DPI uses the limiting side after matching the image to the print orientation.

Your size table will appear here after upload or manual entry.

Best starting size

Upload an image to get a starting size.

Largest reasonable size

No common large size clears 150 DPI yet.

How to read the result

The checker compares the shorter side of your image to the shorter side of each frame, then does the same for the longer side. The lower number becomes the effective DPI.

When to upscale

Upscale first for screenshots, text-message saves, social downloads, Pinterest saves, small scans, or AI art exports that fall below your target print size.

Best source file

Use the original camera-roll photo, exported artwork, or highest-quality download. Every extra compression step can remove detail that would help the print.

Common print questions

What can I print clearly?

Can I print an iPhone photo?

Yes, many original iPhone photos print well at common wall-art sizes. Shared, cropped, or screenshot versions should be checked first.

Can I print an Instagram photo?

Often at smaller sizes, but Instagram and other social platforms compress images. Use the original camera-roll file whenever possible.

Can I print a screenshot?

Sometimes. Screenshots usually have fewer pixels than the original image, so they should be checked and often upscaled before printing large.

Can I print AI art?

Yes, when the export has enough pixels for the size or can be upscaled cleanly. Square AI art may need cropping or matting.

What DPI do I need for wall art?

Around 200 DPI is a strong target for crisp wall art. Around 150 DPI can still look good when viewed from a normal room distance.

What happens if my photo is too small?

Choose a smaller print size or upscale first. Frameable shows recommended next steps before you order.
